MonitoringLocationDescriptionText UMMP SITE #7 IS LOCATED JUST DOWNSTREAM OF THE ESSEX HYDRO DAM ON THE CONTOOCOOK RIVER IN A LARGE RIFFLE FEATURE DOMINATED BY LARGE COBBLE, BOULDERS, COARSE GRAVEL, AND A VARIETY OF POOL DEPTHS. THE SITE IS BOUNDED BY AN ABANDONED MILL COMPLEX ALONG RIVER LEFT AND A SUBSTANTIAL RIPARIAN BUFFER ALONG RIVER RIGHT. RIVCO INDUSTRIES IS LOCATED UPSTREAM ALONG RIVER RIGHT AND CREATES A GAP IN THE BUFFER. FLOWS CAN FLUCTUATE RAPIDLY AT THIS SITE DUE TO HYDROPOWER OPERATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS SHOULD EXCERCISE CAUTION WHEN ACCESSING THIS SITE.
